Ravi Gupta, “Who Owns Faith? A Hindu Perspective on Being a Disciple-Scholar”
Current a long time have seen rigidity between Hindus and students of Hinduism. Who will get to determine how Hinduism is taught within the academy? Do scholarly strategies undermine central Hindu beliefs, or is scholarship suitable with religious Hinduism? Can a practitioner of Hinduism be an efficient scholar of Hinduism? How can scholarship and religion not solely get alongside, however strengthen one another?
On this lecture, Dr. Ravi M. Gupta addresses the connection between religion and scholarship, occupying the twin function of practitioner and scholar of Hinduism.
RAVI M. GUPTA is the Charles Redd Professor of Spiritual Research and Director of the Spiritual Research Program at Utah State College. He’s the creator or editor of 4 books, together with an abridged translation of the Bhagavata Purana (with Kenneth Valpey), revealed in 2016 by Columbia College Press. Ravi accomplished his doctorate in Hindu Research at Oxford College and subsequently taught on the College of Florida, Centre School, and the School of William and Mary. He has obtained 4 educating awards, a Nationwide Endowment for the Humanities summer season fellowship, two visiting fellowships at Oxford, and a e-book award. He’s a Everlasting Analysis Fellow of the Oxford Centre for Hindu Research and a previous president of the Society for Hindu-Christian Research. He lectures all over the world on matters associated to Vaishnava philosophy and Hindu devotional traditions.
