Kali (/ˈkɑːliː/, Sanskrit: काली, (IAST: Kālī), also referred to as Kālikā (Sanskrit: कॉलिंका) or Shyāmā (Sanskrit: श्यामा), is a Hindu goddess. Kali is without doubt one of the ten Mahavidyas, an inventory which mixes Sakta and Buddhist goddesses.

Kali’s earliest look is that of a destroyer of evil forces. She is essentially the most highly effective type of Shakti. She is the goddess of one of many 4 subcategories of the Kulamārga, a class of tantric Saivism. Over time, she has been worshipped by devotional actions and tantric sects variously because the Divine Mom, Mom of the Universe, Adi Shakti, or Adi Parashakti. Shakta Hindu and Tantric sects moreover worship her as the last word actuality or Brahman. She can also be seen because the divine protector and the one who bestows moksha, or liberation. Kali is commonly portrayed standing or dancing on her consort, the Hindu god Shiva, who lies calm and prostrate beneath her. Kali is worshipped by Hindus all through India
